How to Set .MP4 File for Streaming:
Continued from previous page…
Do Make a safety copy of your MP4 file.
Note. Make sure that your file name uses only lower-case letters & numbers and does not contain any spaces. (eg. Replace any spaces with a hyphen or underscore character.)
- Open a Command Prompt Window:
- Type qt-faststart yourinputfile.mp4 yourexportfile.mp4
- Click Return key
You should now see the working messages from QT-FastStart.
Finally, close the Command Prompt session by:
- Type exit
- Click Return key
The Command Prompt Window should close. You should now have a new .mp4 file which is set to "fast-start."
Hints:
1. It is safest to type the full file name, including its “path.” One easy way to do this is to:
- Open Windows File Explorer and locate the MP4 file
- Right-click on the MP4 file and choose “Properties”
- Copy the MP4’s file location and its file name into MS Notepad
2. One quick way to create a suitable name for the output file:
- Having copied the input files full name into MS Notepad, select and copy this
- Type a single space after the end of this file name
- Paste a second copy of this file name after the space
- Edit this second copy to make it unique, by adding something such as -fix to the original file name.
3. Ctrl V does not work to paste into a Command Prompt window. Instead, try this:
- In MS Notepad, select & copy the complete string of input-filename space output-filename
- At the correct point in the Command Prompt window, right-click and choose “Paste”
